This rare cross belongs to the group of processional crosses that accompany every procession of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It has a hollow shaft for mounting on a wooden handle so that it can be carried above people's heads during processions and religious ceremonies. The two lower arms are made to hold the cloth that accompanies the cross when carried by the deacons.
